Except for a few forays to the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Northwest, Aisling Svennungsen grew up in New England. After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2012, she was a resident artist at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in Otis, Oregon. Since then, she has explored the pacific northwest and now resides in Northern California. New adventures are an invaluable part of her inspirational process. Aisling’s balance of studio time with solitary exploration of nature leads to her work being executed with fastidious perfection, in an entirely unique style infused with ever-evolving, organic composition. With a blend of images and memories from glittering landscapes, seascapes, forests, moss, and lichen as inspiration, she creates wearable art pieces that invoke a sense of wonder and enchantment.
About crocheted jewelry
Aisling crochets new and vintage chain made of soldered links, for a delicate look that is lightweight but strong. She uses raw brass, silver plated, and gold-filled chains. Because of her sources, the styles of chain she uses are constantly changing, but the quality always remains the same; chains are tested for their durability. At any time, she has approximately 20 different styles of raw brass chain, all ranging in color, some lighter, some darker, and some copper colored. Ear wires are handmade using sterling silver, or 22k gold-filled wire.
